La Misericordia Clínica Internacional (LMCI) is one of the most modern health institutions in Barranquilla, Colombia and specializes in surgery and critical medicine. The facility has 237 beds and 12 cutting-edge operating rooms. It attends to approximately 8,000 patients per month and hospitalizes about 2,000 people. The organization faced a pressing need to optimize its information security, gain access to 24/7 support, and eliminate system outages. LMCI implemented Fortinet’s secure access solution deploying FortiGate Next-Generation Firewalls and FortiSwitch secure Ethernet switches. Fortinet’s central security management capability allows it to minimize management time spent directly administering the switches that were each previously managed independently. With the new network, operational bottlenecks caused by high bandwidth medical device and outpatient service network traffic are a thing of the past. Rounding out its deployment, the clinic uses FortiAnalyzer for more intelligent analysis of attacks and vulnerabilities and FortiCare for access to support.
