Fortinet Network Security Academy Opens Doors to Aspiring Cybersecurity Professionals at Nanyang Polytechnic
Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT), the global leader in high-performance cyber security solutions, today announced that Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) has become its first partner in Singapore to jointly offer cybersecurity training under the Fortinet Network Security Academy (FNSA) program.
The FNSA is designed to develop and train knowledgeable cybersecurity experts to manage new and advanced threats on the horizon, and NYP is the first educational institution in Singapore to offer the program. The program is also available internationally at selected organizations in Asia Pacific, the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Africa and Europe.
The NYP-FNSA programme between Fortinet and NYP is open to full time Pre-employment Education and Training (PET) courses as well as part time Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses in IT and cyber security, and complements NYP’s courses in network security. Students learn how to design and configure secure enterprise networks with next generation firewalls, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), email and anti-malware security.
“Singapore has been moving towards a full digital economy in a big way and many industries, from banking to healthcare, are now adopting e-services. While it is a boon for convenience and efficiency, a growing digital footprint also presents a larger potential attack surface that could be exploited by cybercriminals,” said Thiantara Kruathorn, Fortinet’s Country Manager for Singapore.
Emphasizing the importance for cybersecurity experts, Mr Kruathorn continued: “The cyber threat is real, and Singapore’s Cyber Security Agency (CSA) has reported over 1 million cyber attacks per day from the web annually in 2016 and 2015. It is therefore critical that we play a part in training cybersecurity professionals to protect local networks and essential services in Singapore and globally. Current estimates show up to 1 million cybersecurity job openings globally with demand expected to rise to 6 million by 2019.”
The Academy will provide Fortinet’s industry-recognized Network Security Expert (NSE) training and certification opportunities to participants. Students are prepared for career success in network security, obtaining both theoretical lectures and hands-on laboratory practice during the course.
“Nanyang Polytechnic has seen growing interest in its IT courses,” said Mr. Dennis Ang, Director, School of IT. “It is almost a given for any business today to have cybersecurity measures in place to safeguard data and systems round the clock. NYP graduates of the FNSA course will have a clear edge in the cybersecurity job market as this Fortinet certification is highly regarded worldwide.”
Fortinet Network Security Academy Designed to Shape Future of Cybersecurity Workforce
Multiple studies demonstrate the cybersecurity labor shortage and the dire need for additional experts. British insurance company Lloyd’s, for instance, estimated that cyberattacks cost businesses as much as US$400 billion a year. The key verticals under attack include healthcare, financial services, education and technology companies with the top threats including malware, botnets and application exploits.
FNSA was created to address the international shortage of cybersecurity experts and to build a workforce skilled in all aspects of Fortinet’s Security Fabric from endpoints to the cloud, who will be recognized in the industry among an elite group of security professionals. The Academy brings the training and certification opportunities previously only offered to Fortinet customers and partners to educational institutions, non-profit organizations and veterans programs. Training for faculty is free of charge for these organizations, arming the professors with the skills needed to teach the program to students who will learn how to protect global organizations from cyber threats.
Fortinet sponsors the training content and examinations for each Academy site, along with supporting instructor preparation. Academy sites offering the training and certification courses provide the lab environment (virtual or hardware) and instructors to deliver the program content.
