As part of its digital transformation process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic (MIREX) wanted to create a secure and centralized communication platform to connect its 116 locations worldwide, including embassies, consulates, diplomatic representations, and commercial offices. The ministry’s ageing infrastructure—based on numerous hardware point products—suffered from availability issues and security gaps. The IT organization that supported all these products was equally fragmented.
MIREX leveraged the Fortinet Security Fabric to implement a hyper-convergent data center model with centralized management and security visibility. It also consolidated its remote-site WAN edge architecture into Fortinet Secure SD-WAN. In doing so, MIREX has reduced the complexity of its IT infrastructure as well as the cost of managing it.
