Known as a progressive, and large city, the City of Portland is pioneering a number of leading-edge data management initiatives that are designed to improve its many services for the community. But innovation in data sharing is possible only if city leaders and the community have confidence in Portland’s cybersecurity posture. That is why the city’s team responsible for technology governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) extensively evaluated Fortinet solutions for protection against cyberattacks and next-generation firewall (NGFW) capabilities. Given the investment and the relationship Portland was looking for, it found a long-term, strategic partnership with Fortinet.
The city deployed FortiGate Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) at the network edges protecting more than 2,000 applications, 600 virtual servers, and hundreds of interfaces and demilitarized zones. It also started the transition to FortiGate for all its internal network segments. FortiGate capabilities stay updated on zero-day threats by AI/ML-powered FortiGuard Services, greatly reducing incident response times to address cyber threats. FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer help the city simplify cyber operations by automating management and governance of the NGFWs. Portland is moving toward identity-based security as well, with a Fortinet-based zero-trust network architecture. This provides seamless user identity management.
