Fortinet (NASDAQ: FTNT), the global leader in high-performance cybersecurity solutions, today announced its partnership with Far East University’s Department of Industrial Security – the first in Korea − to jointly offer cybersecurity training under the Fortinet Network Security Academy (FNSA) program.

The FNSA is designed to develop and train knowledgeable cybersecurity experts to manage new and advanced threats on the horizon. Besides Far East University in South Korea, the FNSA program is available elsewhere in Asia Pacific at Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Australia’s TAFE SA. The program is also available internationally.

“With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), enterprises’ network security requirements have expanded rapidly. We are working with Far East University to educate future cybersecurity professionals and ensure they are well equipped to help organisations cope with cyber threats in the new era,” said Henry Cho, country manager for Fortinet Korea. "Recently, Fortinet has strengthened cooperation with domestic organizations such as the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) and the Financial Security Institute (FSI). Partnering with local education institutions to groom cybersecurity talent is the next step.”

Estimates show up to 1 million cybersecurity job openings globally with demand expected to rise to 6 million by 2019. Fortinet is partnering with organizations around the world in an innovative way to fill the pipeline of cybersecurity experts needed to manage and thwart increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks.

The Academy will provide Fortinet’s industry-recognized Network Security Expert (NSE) training and certification opportunities to participants through theoretical lectures and hands-on laboratory practice. Participating students are equipped with additional knowledge for a successful career in network security.

Through this cooperation with Fortinet, we will introduce a specialized security program to nurture next-generation security talents that can immediately be put to work in the field,” said Professor Park Won-hyung, dean of the Department Industrial Security at Far East University. “This is our university’s way of contributing directly to the domestic industry beyond academic research.”

The Department of Industrial Security at the Far East University is committed to the training of practical security experts. In 2013, the cybersecurity department was established to to train professionals equipped to handle anything from malicious code analysis to digital forensics. The Department of Industrial Security prides itself on producing graduates who have practical skills acquired through theoretical lessons and hands-on training.

Fortinet Network Security Academy Designed to Shape Future of Cybersecurity Workforce

FNSA was created to address the international shortage of cybersecurity experts and to build a workforce skilled in all aspects of Fortinet’s Security Fabric from endpoints to the cloud, who will be recognized in the industry among an elite group of security professionals. The Academy brings the training and certification opportunities previously only offered to Fortinet customers and partners to educational institutions, non-profit organizations and veterans programs. Training is free of charge for these organizations, arming the professors with the skills needed to teach the scheme to students who will learn how to protect global organizations from cyber threats.

Fortinet sponsors the training content and examinations for each Academy site, along with supporting instructor preparation. Academy sites offering the training and certification courses provide the lab environment (virtual or hardware) and instructors to deliver the scheme content.
