NSE 1 — Network Security Technology Foundations
NSE 1 Description
NSE 1 is the entry level designation of the Fortinet Network Security Expert (NSE) program. It is intended to provide a basic understanding of the threat landscape facing networks today.
NSE 1 has a single module. The module, The Threat Landscape, is composed of:
- The current FortiGuard Labs Threat Landscape Report
- Pre-recorded voice/video instruction material
- A module assessment
NSE 1 Program Requirements
- Complete the NSE 1 training module
- Pass the corresponding test
Who Should Attempt NSE 1?
Anyone keen to learn about the threat landscape and network security should take NSE 1. It also provides the foundation for learning about the Fortinet solutions in NSE 2. Fortinet sales and pre-sales associates and Fortinet partners are required to complete this step to progress to the next level of the program.

- Lesson 2: CIO Perspectives
- Lesson 3: CISO Perspectives
- Lesson 4: CFO Perspectives
- Lesson 5: Personal Security Awareness
Level Completion and Designation
You must complete the module and pass the corresponding test to complete NSE 1. The NSE 1 completion certificate is valid for two (2) years.
NSE 1 is required to earn the NSE 1 Network Security Associate designation. The designation is valid for two (2) years.
You can renew your NSE 1 completion certificate by retaking the latest version of the module.
How to Enroll in NSE 1 Certification Training
To enroll in NSE 1 you must have an account on the NSE Institute. If you are a partner, you must enter through the partner portal. All other persons log in through the training portal. You may also create your credentials to the NSE Institute on this page.
You must access the NSE Institute via the portals above to receive credit towards your designations.
Once you’ve logged in, go to the catalog for NSE 1. Enrollment is free and you can progress at your own speed. Once you have completed the required module, you can print your completion certificate and review your transcripts in the NSE Institute.
