Crawford & Company

“We were able to get rid of the ring [network], and that easily brought us a seven-figure annual savings.”

Hilton Sturisky, Global CIO, Crawford & Company

The networking and telecommunications infrastructure at Crawford & Company was coming up for renewal, and the claims management giant used the opportunity to re-assess its network infrastructure. The SONET ring network at headquarters and the traditional WAN connecting more than 150 locations did not provide the agility and cost efficiency the company needed in a rapidly changing marketplace. Crawford opted to retire its SONET ring, replace its legacy MPLS circuits with Verizon technology at approximately the same capacity as before, and use SD-WAN technology to scale network capacity and drive efficiency.

The company selected Fortinet Secure SD-WAN because of its ease of use at scale and its robust, integrated security. They are also deploying management, analytics, and network access control (NAC) technology from Fortinet for the global network. Benefits include significant efficiencies due to streamlined reporting and analytics, significant cost avoidance for rolling out the legacy NAC solution globally, and seven-figure annual savings by retiring the ring network at headquarters.
