Pump the Brakes on Network Function Virtualization Services

In this report, Gartner notes, “Infrastructure and operations leaders should first factor in additional costs and complexity for this relatively immature technology.”

Per the Gartner report “Infrastructure and operations leaders responsible for optimizing the business value of networks should:

  • validate performance within production application environments and require provider guarantees of performance at scale to minimize the impact of higher complexity with premises based NFV.
  • require providers to provide a lengthy solution acceptance and rework period, accompanied by strong, comprehensive SLAs to mitigate the uncertainties of technology immaturity.
  • conduct a thorough total cost of ownership analysis to validate that the promised agility justifies the additional expense.”
