Franciscan Health

Securing the Network in a Complex Healthcare Setting

“It is [about] creating [a] partnership, and that is where Fortinet comes in with the tools, the technology, and the expertise to assist in that [security] landscape; because it takes a village to protect an organization our size.”

– Charles Christian, Vice President Technology and Chief Technology Officer, Franciscan Health

Franciscan Health provides faith-based integrated healthcare in Indiana and Illinois across 14 hospitals and 400 locations, including physician practices, same day surgeries, and urgent care centers. The organization supports a large number of aging and potentially insecure medical devices on its network. Protecting these devices and ensuring against unauthorized network access are therefore key security priorities.

With zero-trust access enabled through FortiNAC (network access control), Franciscan Health is better able to identify and stop unauthorized access to its network. And thanks to the single-pane-of-glass view enabled by FortiNAC, the organization can manage access easily across its locations from a centralized point.

Keeping Threat Actors Out

“[We are] trying to be proactive, rather than reactive. I would much rather prevent someone from getting in [the network], rather than having to figure out: ‘Okay. They have been there for how long, and what have they done?’ And I think that is the important piece: looking at the zero-trust approach.” – Charles Christian, Vice President Technology and Chief Technology Officer, Franciscan Health
