Free White Paper: Next Generation Security for Enterprise Networks
Singapore, Indonesia and other locations protected by Fortinet's FortiGate systems
SINGAPOE, March 1, 2005 - Fortinet® - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -today announced that Toshiba Singapore Pte Ltd, a subsidiary of the Toshiba Corporation, has replaced its CheckPoint/Nokia security appliances with an integrated security platform from Fortinet. Toshiba has already deployed four FortiGate systems to protect its offices and factories in Singapore and Indonesia and has plans to deploy additional devices in the region.
Toshiba Singapore is the Southeast Asian sales headquarters for the Toshiba Corporation of Japan, and has five main lines of business: telephones and facsimile machines, copiers, computers and notebooks, audio-visual products such as TVs and Hard Disk Drive audio players, and home appliances. With its existing CheckPoint/Nokia firewall appliance nearing its End-of-Life (EOL) and the recent rise in malware and spam activity, Toshiba Singapore's Information Systems (IS) department found a new approach to security was needed to adequately deal with current and evolving threats. Products from SonicWall, WatchGuard and Juniper/NetScreen were evaluated, but a very successful evaluation of Fortinet's FortiGate products quickly convinced Toshiba Singapore's IS Department to purchase and deploy Fortinet's solutions.
Mr. Julian Wong, Assistant Section Manager, IS Department, Toshiba Singapore, explains Fortinet's edge over competitors: "There were three important factors in our decision: Fortinet's solutions had no hidden costs; the FortiGate units have three additional features which the other competitors do not provide -- content filtering for cookies and spyware, IPS without performance degradation and ASIC hardware acceleration -- and finally, Fortinet's antivirus functionality was ICSA-certified."
Since the deployment, the Southeast Asian offices have seen a marked improvement in network security and performance due to the comprehensive protection provided by the ASIC-accelerated systems.
"We were so impressed with Fortinet's products that we are now planning to roll-out more FortiGate units to our other offices in Vietnam, and major cities in Indonesia, such as Surabaya, Jogjakarta, Denpasar, and Bandung. This will be done over the next few months, in the next phase of our security deployments," said Mr. Wong.
"Companies that previously invested in firewall and client antivirus software are increasingly realizing that this approach is no longer effective in countering current computer and network threats," said Mr Hansen Chang, vice-president of Fortinet Asia-Pacific. "Companies like Toshiba have discovered the unique benefits of unified threat management appliances in protecting corporate networks at critical choke points against a wide range of threats -- from viruses and Trojans to spam and spyware. We are pleased that Toshiba Singapore has chosen Fortinet to provide region-wide network security."
Fortinet's FortiGate systems are cost effective, multi-function security appliances that integrate firewall, antivirus, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web content filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping functions. Based on the revolutionary FortiASIC™ Content Processor chip, the FortiGate systems can detect and eliminate network threats without reducing network performance. All FortiGate products are kept up-to-date against the latest threats via Fortinet's FortiGuard™ Distribution Network, which delivers continuous and automatic updates to FortiGate systems worldwide to ensure customers everywhere are always protected against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans, and other threats.
