Leading U.S. Airline Selects Fortinet Solutions for its Network and Email Security
SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 21, 2007 - Fortinet® - a pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -today announced that Hawaiian Airlines, a leading U.S. airline that transports more than 6 million passengers per year, has recently purchased and deployed Fortinet's FortiGate™-3600A multi-threat security systems to protect its corporate network and FortiMail™-2000 to secure its company-wide email servers and Internet access at all of its airport terminals.
Hawaiian Airlines selected Fortinet because it required an appliance-based system that integrated key security functions - specifically firewall, anti-virus and Web filtering - and also could provide superior performance, scalability and ease-of-management.
"We needed comprehensive security protection, which we found with Fortinet. We felt that Fortinet offered us the best solution to meet our needs while also being cost-effective," said David Lopes, manager of network infrastructure and telecom for Hawaiian Airlines. "Since deploying the Fortinet solution, we've cut down about 95,000 spam emails per week across our corporate network."
Faced with ever-mounting network security threats, airlines today are under extreme pressure to respond quickly and eliminate any potential system attack. Airlines need reliable and secure Internet access for critical transactions, such as booking flights, checking bags, finding connecting flights and unexpected flight delays. Any delay in these transactions, due to a bogged down Internet connection or a jeopardized network, can severely impact customer service and response times.
"By deploying these systems, Hawaiian Airlines will now have the benefits of having highly integrated, scalable multi-threat tools to mitigate the risks associated with today's advanced security threats," said Karl Soderlund, vice president of Americas sales and global alliances for Fortinet. "Fortinet's feature-rich multi-threat security platform affords Hawaiian Airlines the option to adopt more functionality as the business grows and corporate needs change."
Comprehensive, Integrated Security Platform
Fortinet's FortiGate multi-threat security appliances provide comprehensive network and content protection through the integration of eight essential security applications and services - including anti-virus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention (IPS), anti-spam, anti-spyware, Web filtering and traffic shaping. The systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard subscription services, which provide continuous updates to help to ensure protection against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans and other threats - around the clock, and around the world. Fortinet's FortiMail systems are optimized for enterprise customers, delivering a wealth of reliable and high performance features to detect, tag, quarantine and block spam messages and their malicious attachments. Quick installation with low maintenance overhead combined with Fortinet's award winning administration interface provides ease-of-use with a low cost of ownership making FortiMail appliances the most powerful and affordable enterprise-class email security systems available today.

Purchase Fortinet Products
Most manufacturers were able to offer two out of our three desired security functions but Fortinet was the only vendor with the capability to provide all three in a single security solution, while meeting our high expectations in terms of performance and cost effectiveness. On top of providing first-class security, the flexibility of the FortiGate systems allows our security solution to evolve on a per-region basis, as and when required. Moving forward, Fortinet's integrated approach means that other security functions such as SSL VPN, firewall and traffic shaping can be switched as per a country's individual requirements. As a fast-growing acquisitive company, this made for a very compelling proposition.
