Charter Business™ Selects Fortinet to Power Managed Security Services

Charter Deploys more than 200 FortiGate™ Security Systems to Deliver Unified Security Functionality to Business Customers

St. Louis, Missouri, Nov. 14, 2006- Charter Business™, a division of Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHT), today announced that it has deployed more than 200 Fortinet high-performance FortiGate™ integrated security systems to its broadband business Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) customers throughout the country.

"Charter Business can now provide our broadband business customers a cost-efficient and flexible enterprise-level security system without the complexity associated with integrating and managing multiple standalone systems," said Jim McGann, Corporate Vice President for Charter Business.

Charter Business focuses on provisioning broadband services for small businesses and connecting home-based workers to remote branch offices that require stringent access and security measures comparable to large enterprises. Initially, finding the ability to deliver security solutions similar to those of large enterprises to businesses with conservative budgets was challenging. Charter realized that deploying point solutions for firewall, antivirus and intrusion prevention (IPS) would cause a business customer's initial purchase and management costs to escalate.

"We recognized a critical need to integrate multiple security functionality into a range of multi-threat security systems that did not compromise performance relative to standalone, single-functional security alternatives," said Mr. McGann.

Charter had a list of stringent requirements for its integrated solution, including multiple security functionality, high performance and central management.

To date, Charter Business has deployed the FortiGate systems in more than 200 customer networks. Because of the centralized management capability of Fortinet's solution, Charter Business is also positioned to rapidly scale its managed security services as it expands in new markets.

Fortinet's FortiGate multi-threat security appliances provide comprehensive network and content protection through the integration of eight essential security applications and services - including antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention (IPS), antispam, antispyware, Web filtering and traffic shaping.

Not only is the volume of email traffic rising but with it, the complexity of malware with the presence of blended threats combining spam, viruses, worms and spyware. To help ensure optimum service and security for our customers, we needed an effective multi-layered solution that combined antivirus, anti-spam and anti-spyware technologies in one appliance. FortiMail met our performance requirements while providing ease-of-use and management to our IT team which is essential as we do not have the time or resources to deploy and maintain separate point solutions.
