The Salvation Army Defends Against Network Threats with Fortinet Solutions

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug 13, 2007 - Fortinet® - a pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions - today announced that The Salvation Army, Hong Kong & Macau Command, has successfully deployed Fortinet's FortiGate™-300A and FortiAnalyzer™-100B systems at its headquarters in Hong Kong.

The Salvation Army Hong Kong & Macau Command, part of the International Salvation Army, was established in 1930 in Hong Kong, at the request of the colonial government. Presently, the organization runs a wide range of social, education and spiritual services and has been involved in disaster relief programs, most recently for the South Asian tsunami in 2004 and the earthquake and flooding in China this year.

The technology team at The Salvation Army, Hong Kong & Macau Command, selected Fortinet solutions based on three operational requirements: protection against viruses and threats spread through Instant Messaging (IM) applications; ease of management, and integrated SSL VPN features for future connectivity to other service centers in Hong Kong, Macau and China.

"We were impressed with how easy it was to setup the UTM features in the FortiGate-300A, and Fortinet's FortiAnalyzer was also very useful to us in that it helped provide us with useful network statistics and analysis tools that we did not have before. Previously, we had to dig out the information we wanted from a lot of log data which was very difficult and tedious with our limited manpower. FortiAnalyzer gives us graphical analysis of bandwidth and usage, potential threats and vulnerabilities," explained Mr. Jacob Chik, IT manager at The Salvation Army, Hong Kong & Macau Command.

The FortiGate-300A and FortiAnalyzer-100B were purchased in April this year and successfully deployed in one afternoon. The systems have been running since May and help provide security against viruses, malware and IM threats to more than 140 staff and volunteers at the headquarters in Hong Kong.

Fortinet's FortiGate-300A multi-threat security appliances integrate antivirus, content inspection firewall, IPSec and SSL VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam, antispyware, and IM and P2P security controls to help prevent blended attacks.
