Fortinet's FortiGate Security Appliances Achieve NSS Certification for Unified Threat Management (UTM) CapabilitiesIncreases Fortinet's impressive portfolio of product certifications, including NSS Approval for intrusion prevention, seven ICSA certifications, Common Criteria EAL 4+ and FIPS certificationSUNNYVALE, Calif., October 19, 2005 - Fortinet - the pioneer and market leader of Unified Threat Management and only provider of ASIC-accelerated, network-based multi-threat security systems for real-time network protection - today announced that its FortiGate™-3600 systems have passed rigorous unified threat management (UTM) testing by The NSS Group, a prestigious independent security testing facility. The FortiGate-3600 enterprise security appliance, running with Fortinet's FortiOS 2.8 firmware, achieved the NSS Approved certification based on the performance, reliability, security effectiveness, and usability of its integrated UTM capabilities. With this recognition, Fortinet is one of only two vendors out of six test participants to gain NSS Approved certification after the first round of UTM testing. This adds to Fortinet's impressive portfolio of product certifications, which include NSS Approval for intrusion prevention systems (IPS), seven ICSA certifications (server antivirus, client antivirus cleaning and detection, firewall, IPSec VPN, SSL VPN, NIDS), Common Criteria EAL 4+, and FIPS certification. For its UTM test, The NSS Group evaluated the following capabilities within a single appliance form factor: firewall, antivirus, VPN, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), antispam, URL filtering and content filtering. Fortinet's FortiGate-800 enterprise security appliances also hold NSS Approved certification for intrusion prevention system (IPS) functionality, demonstrating the strong capabilities of both its standalone security applications and integrated unified threat management functionality. Fortinet's FortiGate systems are the only security appliances on the market that have received NSS Approved certification for UTM and IPS capabilities. "Fortinet's FortiGate-3600 system impressed The NSS Group with its integrated unified threat management capabilities that proved robust throughout our test in the areas of performance, reliability, security effectiveness, and usability," said Bob Walder, director of The NSS Group. "We found the FortiGate-3600 system to perform well whether running single security applications or all unified threat management applications at the same time."
