Free White Paper: Next Generation Security for Enterprise Networks
Integrated Security Platform Enables Real-time Protection of the Vast Telephone Directory Database
SEOUL, Korea, Nov. 16, 2004 - Fortinet, Inc., the confirmed market leader in Unified Threat Management and only provider of ASIC-accelerated network-based antivirus firewall systems for real-time network protection, today announced that Korea Telecom Directory has installed the FortiGate™-400 enterprise-class antivirus firewall system to protect its network of more than 22 million subscribers.
Korea Telecom Directory previously provided phone directory services through booklets and CD-OMs using an integrated brand called "Superpage". More recently, the company moved towards an electronic business model to leverage the cost and accessibility advantages of the Internet. To protect the integrity and confidentiality of data for its more than 22 million subscribers, as well as its own corporate network, the company needed to replace its previously ineffective antivirus software product with a comprehensive and powerful security solution.
Choi Jung-soo, an official of Korea Telecom Directory's system operation team, management strategy division, said: "Our previous antivirus solution failed to block attacks from certain worms and viruses, which led to a shutdown of the telephone directory database and caused something close to an emergency. Afterwards, we realized the necessity of getting a more effective and powerful security solution. After an evaluation, we chose the FortiGate-400 antivirus firewall for its impressive and comprehensive combination of security features and VPN functions."
Choi continued: "Since installing Fortinet's FortiGate-400 system, we haven't fallen victim to a single attack and have significantly reduced the amount of spam mail received. This is due to the complete content protection the systems provide in conjunction with Fortinet's FortiProtectTM Network which has immediately identified and pushed updates out to safeguard us from attacks as they have arisen."
Korea Telecom Directory purchased the FortiGate-400 Antivirus Firewall platform to protect its 10 corporate servers which link more than 170 individual client systems. Since implementing the Fortinet solution, Korea Telecom Directory has seen significant improvement in network security, performance and availability.
Fortinet's FortiGate-400 Antivirus Firewalls are high-performance hardware platforms that deliver complete real-time network protection at the network edge through the integration of a complete array of security services -- including antivirus, firewall, network-based intrusion detection/prevention (IDP), virtual private networking (VPN), Web content filtering, and traffic shaping. "Any company conducting business over the Internet knows that the inaccessibility of information or slow network performance caused by a security attack could mean the loss of customers," said Jens Andreassen, Fortinet's vice president of international sales. "Millions of subscribers expect Korea Telecom Directory's online information to be available and reliable all the time. Fortinet's ASIC-accelerated FortiGate systems provide the high performance required to scan traffic and block threats in real-time - without affecting the speed or availability of the network."
