Fortinet Extends Managed Security Service Provider Partner Program; FortiGate-5000 Chassis Series Offers Additional Security Services on a Single Platform

Growing number of MSSPs including BAI, Guarded Networks and RISC leverage FortiGate Antivirus Firewalls to protect customers worldwide

SUNNYVALE, Calif., October 11, 2004 - Fortinet, Inc., the confirmed market leader in Unified Threat Management and only provider of ASIC-accelerated network-based antivirus firewall systems for real-time network protection, today announced enhancements to its growing managed security service provider (MSSP) program. The company now offers two distinct MSSP partner and related program elements to both end user and internal customer needs. Fortinet's MSSP program now offers a valuable MSSP secure operation center and network operation center service resale option for traditional resellers looking to expand service revenues as a MSSP with minimal capital investment. Fortinet's enhanced program assists existing MSSPs in reselling services from their significant network and infrastructure capabilities.

Leading analyst firms predict MSSP services will grow at least 50 percent annually until 2006 (source: IDC) and that the managed security service market will reach $3.7 billion by 2008 (source: Yankee Group). Fortinet is realizing this growth and has successfully signed more than 100 global MSSP partners to date such as Guarded Networks, RISC in France, KDDI in Japan and KT bizmeka in Korea. Fortinet's portfolio of ASIC-accelerated FortiGate systems are being deployed to separately offer best in class firewall, antivirus, intrusion detection/intrusion prevention services and more -- to thousands of small and medium size enterprise (SME) customers worldwide. SMEs using FortiGate systems as customer premise equipment have the ability to sign up for one or more security services on a single FortiGate system, saving them both capital and operational expenses. Both MSSPs and their SME customers also find Fortinet's box-based pricing model far more economical than the user-based pricing models currently sold by most competitors.

Fortinet's Expanded MSSP Partner Program
Fortinet's two-tier MSSP Program is now customized for a larger section of the FortiPartner Program and will appeal to smaller resellers who want to provide multiple managed security services utilizing Fortinet hardware, logging and reporting products. Fortinet now offers more than 15 unique FortiGate systems to serve the MSSP customer base ranging from the FortiGate-5000 chassis series with multigigabit throughput in an Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) based form factor, to the ideal customer premise FortiGate-60 system. To best meet the individual needs of various types and sizes of MSSPs, Fortinet's expanded MSSP Program offers two levels: Star and Premier:

  • Fortinet MSSP Star Partner Program - This program meets the needs of more experienced partners who both manage and operate their own network operation centers (NOCs) or security operation centers (SOCs), and have a significant investment in network infrastructure, personnel, training, support, and monitoring capabilities. Star Partners receive the highest-level of Fortinet-provided marketing, support, lead-generation and customized sales support and training, along with the option to purchase products directly from Fortinet or indirectly through authorized distributors.
  • Fortinet MSSP Premier Authorized Partner Program - This program is well-suited for newer or relatively smaller reseller partners who want to take advantage of the MSSP market opportunity through the deployment of FortiGate units on a customer's premise and reselling an existing MSSP Partner NOC or SOC to their own customer base. The Premier program also appeals to resellers who are in the early stages of the MSSP business. Benefits to these partners include access to Fortinet-supplied marketing materials, support via established Fortinet distributors and training. Premier partners purchase products indirectly through authorized distributors.

Fortinet Integrated Network Security Platform
All of Fortinet's FortiGate Antivirus Firewall platforms include the newest software release, FortiOS™ 2.8, adding valuable features including advanced Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) and support for the new FortiClient's VPN, antivirus and personal firewall. The FortiGate system, combined with Fortinet's complimentary hardware and software offerings, can offer one or all of a broad array of security applications - including antivirus, stateful firewalling, IDP, VPN, Web filtering, anti-spam, grayware detection and prevention and traffic shaping - on one security platform. All 60,000 FortiGate systems in production worldwide are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiProtect™ Network, which provides continuous updates that ensure protection against the latest threats around the clock and around the world.

Additionally, Fortinet's FortiManager™ is an integrated reporting and logging system providing MSSPs the ability to easily and efficiently manage and monitor large numbers of SME users across multiple FortiGate systems. FortiManager minimizes the MSSP's administrative operational expense efforts and improves security by providing a centralized management platform. Centralized management helps MSSPs deploy, configure, monitor and maintain the full range of network protection services provided by FortiGate devices, as well as establish and maintain separate security policies across multiple, dispersed FortiGate installations
