Reviewer Says: "Fortinet gets our vote"
The Information Security magazine reviewer tested products in a simulated "real-world" network environment and launched viruses, malicious code and attacks to examine how each product reported and responded. Additionally, VPNs were set up to tunnel between like appliances. All products were graded on five criteria: functionality and flexibility; price; ease of installation; policy configuration; and security.
Of the products tested, Information Security the reviewer gave her vote to the FortiGate-800 device - giving it the highest marks with an overall grade of an A-. Praising the system for a quick and easy installation, simple and intuitive graphical user interface, the reviewer stated: "Fortinet appliances were running in 10 minutes or less because they avoided the cumbersome steps found in the other products [and] Fortinet's secure Web GUI is responsive and easy to navigate. Adding objects, such as custom services, groups and virtual IPs, was simple. The firewall table is grouped by zone to help users eyeball related policies."
Additionally, the reviewer noted that the FortiGate-800 system had the richest site-to-site VPN capabilities of all products tested.
Designed for mid-range enterprise networks, the FortiGate-800 antivirus firewall is a complete content security solution that protect against the growing number of costly, content-based threats at the network's edge, while delivering the highest possible performance. Like all FortiGate devices, it delivers enterprise-class antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion detection/prevention, antispam and Web content filtering in a single, easy to manage and cost-effective system. Additionally, it can scan Internet traffic in real time, which includes Web browsing in addition to email and file transfers. All FortiGate platforms are kept up to date automatically through Fortinet's FortiProtect Network, which delivers continuous and automatic "push" updates that ensure protection against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans, and other threats - around the clock, and around the world.
"Security administrators need a wide range of functionality to deal with today's complex, blended threats, and it's increasingly clear that integrated security systems are the best way to deliver these functions with acceptable cost and manageability," said Richard Kagan, vice president of marketing for Fortinet. "Earning the highest grade in this competitive review validates that Fortinet's FortiGate Antivirus Firewalls provide the best integrated security platform on the market."
