Top Taiwan University Secures Network with Fortinet SolutionsFortiGate Anti-Virus Firewalls Provide Soochow University with a Comprehensive Security Infrastructure and Real-Time Attack ProtectionSunnyvale, Calif., June 10, 2004 - Fortinet, Inc., the only provider of ASIC-powered, network-based antivirus firewall systems for real-time network protection, today announced that Soochow University, a leading university in Taiwan, has chosen Fortinet's FortiGate platform to secure its campus network that supports more than 14,500 students and 1,000 staff members. Soochow University needed to enhance its existing network security infrastructure to better address the increase in network and content-based attacks originating inside and outside the network, implement a formalized security policy, and provide a platform for growth. Previously, the University was using desktop anti-virus software to counter the threat of viruses, worms and Trojans, and network protection was provided by Layer 3 switch/router packet filters. Soochow University evaluated vendor solutions based on several criteria, including price, performance, manageability and hardware specifications, eventually choosing Fortinet because of these factors:
Fortinet's FortiGate-3000, FortiGate-1000 and FortiGate-60 antivirus firewalls provide the basis for Soochow University's new high-performance network security infrastructure. With the improved security infrastructure in place, the University can now protect users and data from even the most sophisticated content-based worms, viruses and other malware, as well as network-based Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. Tsui-Ting Hsu, Supervisor of Network Division of Soochow University's Computing Center said, "We chose Fortinet because of its broad functionality, as well as its user-friendly management interfaces. An important aspect of security is also how easily the security infrastructure can be managed." F. Matthew Young III, Vice President and General Manager, Fortinet Asia Pacific said, "Universities and educational institutions are particularly vulnerable to malicious activity, yet network users still demand a high level of service. This deployment environment is a true test of the effectiveness and efficiency of any security product."

Deloitte Touche TohmatsuSan Jose, California Only a few vendors can provide security appliances with such high firewall performance. We were very happy with the high level of security, service reliability and cost-effectiveness provided by Fortinet's solutions, so it was a natural progression to look at Fortinet's recently introduced enterprise security appliance. The tests conducted on the FortiGate-3810A proved that Fortinet's new system addressed our high network bandwidth and security performance requirements. |
