Further Education Colleges Award Top Marks to Fortinet Network Security Platforms

FortiGate™ systems deployed in large UK learning institutions to combat a range of Internet threats including DDoS, Spyware, worms and banned content

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Aug. 3, 2005 - Fortinet - the pioneer and market leader of Unified Threat Management and only provider of ASIC-accelerated, network-based antivirus firewall systems for real-time network protection - today demonstrated its suitability to address the key network protection issues of the further education sector with positive endorsements from a series of UK colleges who have recently adopted the FortiGate integrated network security platform. West Nottinghamshire College, Suffolk College, and the North West Institute of Further and Higher Education (NWIFHE) have each chosen Fortinet in order to fulfill a number of specific and combined network security functions such as IDS/IPS, antivirus, firewall and anti-spyware.

"We deployed a FortiGate-800 system to enhance our virus protection. We also found that with the same device we could clamp down on illegal file sharing and provide extra security against blended threats with its integrated IDS/IPS functionality," said Gerard McCole, network services manager at the NWIFHE in Londonderry, Northern Ireland where 1,600 PCs make up the IT network and where policing the web browsing habits of students is a continuing challenge. "Having the Fortinet system in our network gives us so much more management flexibility in how we deploy network security functions. The performance is just outstanding and, with new signature updates captured every 75 minutes, it makes us feel very comfortable about being protected against the latest worms and viruses as well as keeping on top of banned web content."

Integrated Network and Content Security for Educational Institutions
Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated network security platforms designed to deliver a full-suite of integrated security services in real-time including antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion detection/prevention, native content filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping. The FortiGate family of systems spans the full range of network environments - including all-sized businesses, educational institutions and other verticals - and offers cost effective systems for a best in class suite of ICSA-certificated applications.

The FortiGate-800 network security platform is perfectly suited to meet the enterprise demands of educational institutions for comprehensive security combined with high performance. With multiple Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet ports for fast, smooth installation into existing network architecture, both solutions are also kept automatically up-to-date by virtue of Fortinet's FortiProtect™ Network which provides continuous updates ensuring protection against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans and other threats.

"The value of the Internet as a research and communications mechanism to students is sometimes in danger of being overshadowed by its tendency to expose them to inappropriate information and illegal content," said Jonathan Mepsted, Regional Director of Fortinet. "We're helping colleges in the UK and around the world counter these issues. We are supporting our education customers in achieving their network security aims, and helping to ease the administration strain of maintaining and managing campus network security with the most flexible and comprehensive solutions available."
