Leading Retailer in Taiwan Deploys Fortinet's FortiGate-60 Series in Stores to Secure Credit Card Transactions
TAIPEI, Taiwan, October 23, 2007
- Fortinet® - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -
today announced that Tsann Kuen 3C, the retail giant based in Taiwan, has successfully deployed Fortinet's FortiGate™-60 series appliances in each of its 3C chain of stores to secure credit card payment and store information.
Tsann Kuen 3C (TK3C) is part of Tsann Kuen Enterprises Company, a well-known brand for both manufacturing and retail in Taiwan. TK3C operates a chain of more than 200 stores in Taiwan, providing quality consumer and electronic products to customers.
TK3C has more than 2.9 million members and tens of millions of credit card transactions every year. As the major retailer in Taiwan, TK3C's management recognizes its responsibility to keep credit card transactions secure, protect against fraud and keep customer data confidential, and has made network security its top priority.
The deployment of Fortinet's FortiGate-60 appliances in each of TK3C's chain of stores was proposed and implemented by Fortinet partner Taiwan Telecommunication Network (TTN), a subsidiary of Taiwan Mobile Co. Ltd. This project marks the largest deployment of FortiGate systems for the retail vertical in China and Taiwan. The FortiGate solution provides antivirus, firewall security for each store, as well as VPN connectivity with the head office in Taipei for secure credit card transactions and the transmission of store information. This deployment standardizes what was previously a mix of different systems and methods to achieve security and connectivity. System integrator TTN proposed Fortinet's low end appliances because theyprovided the most comprehensive feature set for both security and connectivity.
"We were very pleased at the speed and ease with which the FortiGate appliances were rolled out to our more than 200 stores. The whole project went very smoothly, and was completed in about a month, including testing," explains Alex Chin, Assistant Vice President of Product Management , TTN. "The FortiGate systems are running now, and so far we have not suffered any outages due to virus outbreaks or hacking incidents."
Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate essential security applications such as antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard™ Network, which helps ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic and more - around the clock and around the world.
"The success of the TK3C project shows one of our unique selling propositions, which is the ability to deploy our products quickly and reliably. This is very important for large scale roll-outs because project turnaround times are crucial to system integrators because it directly impacts their bottom lines," said Spencer Chen, country manager for Fortinet in Taiwan.
