The Salvation Army, Hong Kong & Macau Command Upgrades its Networks Security and Connectivity with FortiGate-300A and FortiAnalyzer-100B
HONG KONG, China, July 12, 2007
- Fortinet® - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -
today announced that The Salvation Army, Hong Kong & Macau Command, has successfully deployed one FortiGate™-300A and one FortiAnalyzer™-100B at its headquarters in Hong Kong.
The Salvation Army Hong Kong & Macau Command is part of the International Salvation Army and was established in 1930 in Hong Kong, at the request of the colonial government. Presently, the organization runs a wide range of social, education and spiritual services and has been involved in disaster relief programs, most recently for the South Asian tsunami in 2004 and the earthquake and flooding in China this year.
The technology team at The Salvation Army, Hong Kong & Macau Command, selected Fortinet based on three operational requirements: protect against viruses and threats spread through Instant Messaging (IM) applications; easily supported by limited available manpower; and integrated SSL VPN features for future connectivity to other service centers in Hong Kong, Macau and China.
"We were impressed with how easy it was to setup the UTM features in the FortiGate-300A, and Fortinet's FortiAnalyzer was also very useful to us in that it provided the network statistics and analysis tools that we did not have before. Previously, we had to dig out the information we wanted from a lot of log data and with our limited manpower, that was very difficult and tedious. FortiAnalyzer gives us graph analysis of bandwidth and usage, potential threats and vulnerabilities," explained Mr. Jacob Chik, IT manager at The Salvation Army, Hong Kong & Macau Command.
The FortiGate-300A and FortiAnalyzer-100B were purchased in April this year, and successfully deployed in one afternoon. The systems have been running since May and provide security against viruses, malware and IM threats to more than 140 staff and volunteers at the headquarters in Hong Kong.
Fortinet's FortiGate-300A platform provides a complete security solution including content inspection firewall, IPSec and SSL VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam, anti-virus, anti-spyware, IM and P2P controls that prevent blended attacks making them the most cost effective, convenient and powerful network protection solutions available. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date through FortiGuard™ Subscription Services, which provides continuous updates to help ensure protection against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans and other threats - around the clock and around the world. Fortinet's FortiAnalyzer-100B is a dedicated network hardware appliance that securely aggregates log data from Fortinet devices and third party devices and features reporting and analysis capabilities. A full range of log records including traffic, event, virus, attack, Web content and email data may be archived, filtered and mined for compliance or historical analysis purposes.
"Charity organizations such as The Salvation Army have to deal with very special circumstances. Theirs is a truly mobile workforce that can and does get sent to very remote corners of the world. Security and connectivity are very real challenges and can have a direct impact on human lives," said Jens Andreassen, Fortinet's VP of APAC. "This is our first UTM deployment for a charity organization in Hong Kong and we are very proud to be associated with The Salvation Army here."
