Korea New Network Upgrades Network Security with Fortinet Solutions

Award-winning broadcast network deploys Fortinet FortiGate and FortiAnalyzer enterprise security appliances to defend against and gain intelligence on network threats

SEOUL, South Korea, June 13, 2007 - Fortinet® - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions - today announced that the Korea New Network, a leading broadcast news company in Pusan and Kyeong-nam provinces, has improved its security infrastructure with the purchase and deployment of Fortinet's FortiGate™-800, FortiGate™-300A and FortiAnalyzer™-100A systems.

The Korea New Network, formerly the Pusan Broadcasting Corporation (PSB), is a subdivision of the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS). A 12-time recipient of the Korean Broadcasting Award, Korea New Network produces the highest number of original programs among SBS' broadcast affiliates.

The Korea New Network had decided to replace its previous security systems, which provided only basic firewall and intrusion prevention features, when they proved inadequate at dealing with more recent malware attacks. Korea New Network sought a new solution that would protect their corporate network as well as secure their public online services such as live streaming of TV and radio shows. A high-performance security solution that was critical so that online services were not disrupted or delayed. . Additionally, a well-integrated monitoring solution was also needed to provide a means to monitor and analyze network traffic to assess the effectiveness of their security measures. The technology support staff evaluated a range of security products on their ability to identify and address current threats and perform under high network loads. They found that Fortinet's FortiGate family of UTM security platforms and FortiAnalyzer-100A monitoring and analysis system best addressed all their requirements.

"With our previous firewall, we could not block many of the new malicious software and blended threats; and when our systems were infected, we could not determine the source of the infection, much less prevent the attacks from happening again," said Jung Seok-Hyun, Manager of R&D Technical Team for Broadcasting Support Department, KNN. "When we tested the solutions from Fortinet, we found that they could not only catch a much wider range of threats, but also give us detailed intelligence on our network traffic which is very useful in forensics as well as developing response procedures."

Korea New Network purchased and deployed Fortinet's FortiGate-800 system in its data center, the FortiGate-300 system at its Computer Operations Center and the FortiAnalyzer-100A logging, reporting and analysis system at its corporate headquarters. The new security infrastructure is operational and running smoothly.

Fortinet's award-winning FortiGate systems deliver comprehensive network and content protection to enterprises and service providers of all sizes through the integration of eight essential security applications and services, including antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention (IPS), anti-spam, anti-spyware, Web filtering and traffic shaping. FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard™ subscription services, which provide continuous updates to help protect against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans, and other threats.

Fortinet's FortiAnalyzer family of real-time network logging, analyzing, and reporting systems are a series of dedicated network hardware appliances that securely aggregate a full range of log data, such as network traffic, events, viruses, attacks, web content and email information, from Fortinet devices and third party devices. FortiAnalyzer provides a wide array of standard reports, as well as the flexibility to customize unique reports.

"For Korea New Network and other broadcasters, their business depends on delivering accurate content in real-time," said Justin Lee Sang-Joon, Country Manager of Fortinet Korea. "Understandably, they had had stringent security and performance requirements and we are very pleased that after a thorough evaluation, they have chosen Fortinet for their security solution."
