Company Also a Network Security Market Leader
SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 21, 2008
- Fortinet - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions -
today announced that new IDC research data confirms that the company ranked No. 1 in worldwide UTM factory revenue and the Asia Pacific UTM leader based on factory revenue, both for 2007, fueled by significant large enterprise, MSSP and carrier adoption of its high-end FortiGate™ network security appliances. This data makes Fortinet the global UTM factory revenue leader for two consecutive years.
Data in the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker, March 2008, confirmed:
- Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for all of 2007 and Q4 2007
- Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Asia Pacific and Western Europe for all of 2007 and Q4 2007
- Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in the high-end ($50K-$99.9K) price band for both factory revenue and units shipped
- Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in the two enterprise UTM price band segments ($10K-$24.9K and $25K-$49.9K) for both factory revenue and units shipped
Of particular significance to the APAC region is Fortinet's UTM leadership at the country level, as highlighted below:
- Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue relative to global vendors in Korea, India, Malaysia, and Singapore.
- In Hong Kong, Fortinet leads a key low-end price band ($1K-$2.9K) in factory revenue and units shipped
- In India, Fortinet leads and is the only vendor in one enterprise UTM ($25K-$49.9K) price band for units shipped and factory revenue, and is the leader in the other enterprise UTM ($10K-$24.9K) price band for units shipped
- In China, Fortinet leads in the one enterprise ($25K-$49.9K) price bands for units shipped and factory revenue
- In Korea, Fortinet leads global vendors in the $3K-$5.9K price band for factory revenue and units shipped, as well as the large enterprise ($10K-$24.9K) price band for factory revenue and units shipped
- In Malaysia, Fortinet leads in one enterprise UTM price band ($25K-$49.9K) and price bands for factory revenue and units shipped
- In Singapore, Fortinet leads in one enterprise UTM ($10K-$24.9K) price band for factory revenue and units shipped
- In Taiwan, Fortinet leads in the low-end ($0-$0.9K) price band for factory revenue and units shipped, one enterprise UTM ($25K-49.9K) price band for factory revenue and units shipped, and in the high-end ($50K-$99.9K) price band for factory revenue and units shipped
"The APAC market's adoption of UTM solution is growing, in part due to large enterprises and MSSPs requiring higher performing, integrated solutions, and also in part to the mid-market's performance and throughput requirements now rivaling that of the large enterprise," said Mr. Jens Andreassen, vice president of APAC sales for Fortinet. “We are pleased to see that our ability to help fulfill these requirements with our scalable FortiGate family of multi-threat security solutions continues to fuel our market growth."
According to IDC, UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device. To be included in this category, as opposed to other Threat Management appliance segments, UTM appliances must contain the ability to perform network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, and gateway antivirus. All of the capabilities need not be utilized, but the functions must exist inherently in the appliance. In addition to the mandatory applications, UTM appliances may also host other security or networking features.
"As the latest IDC data shows, Fortinet maintained our UTM market lead and grew our position in the overall network security appliance market in 2007 - validating the increased market adoption of Fortinet solutions," said Ken Xie, president, founder and CEO of Fortinet. "Enterprises and service provider customers of all sizes are realizing the unique benefits of Fortinet's highly flexible and scalable platform, which allows for network security consolidation to meet a wide array of varied requirements and reduce overall total cost of ownership."
