Fortinet Gains Momentum in Korea's High-end Security Market

- Successful Deployment of FortiGate Security Appliance with Major Enterprise Customers
- Targeting Large Enterprise Market with FortiGate-3000 and FortiGate-5000 Series

SEOUL, Korea. - Apr. 10, 2008 - Fortinet - the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions - today announced it is gaining momentum in penetrating the enterprise high-end UTM market in Korea with the Fortinet FortiGate™ multi-threat security solution. This is fueled by the increasing demand from large enterprise customers for consolidated security solutions, which offer the benefits of enhanced network protection and reduced total cost of ownership.

Fortinet Korea recently deployed its enterprise-class integrated security solution, the FortiGate-3000 Series and FortiGate-5000 Series appliances, with customers Chosun-ilbo, KT, Seoul National University Hospital and KB Bank. Fortinet's growing presence in the high-end segment is further demonstrated by a strong increase in the number of FortiGate security appliances that have shipped to enterprise customers in Korea. From 2006 to 2007, Fortinet Korea more than doubled shipments of its FortiGate enterprise-class shipments.

"As the pioneer and leader of the UTM market, Fortinet has dedicated itself to the development of UTM market worldwide market as well as in Korea," said Justin Lee, Korea country manager, Fortinet. "As a result of our efforts, the adoption of UTM solutions among small to mid-enterprises is significantly increased, and we now also see the increasing demand by large enterprises for comprehensive, consolidated security."

According to IDC, UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device and must contain the ability to perform network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, and gateway antivirus. All of the capabilities need not be utilized, but the functions must exist inherently in the appliance. Many enterprise customers are still selectively using point products like firewall, VPN and IPS for securing their network environments. But by consolidating even just two or three features within one device, enterprise customers can realize many benefits, including improved security, ease of management and lower cost of ownership. In addition, customers can improve their environmental impact by reducing the number of appliances required to run their network, which has an advantageous effect of lower power consumption. Due to the modular and flexible platform that the FortiGate appliance offers, enterprise customers can later easily turn on additional security functions should they decide to further consolidate their networks.

"While most small and medium business customers are utilizing all of the UTM capabilities, customers in the high-end market are likely to use one specific feature which is essential for their network requirement to complement existing security solutions that they already had deployed," Mr. Lee added. "As you can see by Fortinet's successful customer references in the high-end market, the performance of Fortinet's solutions has been proven to the enterprise high-end market with advanced technology and high performance compared to those of single-point security solution. In 2008, Fortinet Korea will continue to our effort to expand the UTM market, focusing on VPN/firewall replacement market as well as high-end market."

Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate essential security applications such as antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam and traffic shaping. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard Network, which helps provide protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic and more - around the clock and around the world.
